Here’s super sunny indie pop band Magic Kids. They’re like Belle and Sbastian on some kind of happy juice. If you’re into twee, surf-pop, and The Beach Boys, then you’ll definitely love this band.

The Bees have been one of the most consistent bands out there. Every album they release is a gem. Listening to them is like getting a mixtape of rock history. You can really here all their influences ranging from almost every decade. Here’s their new single “I Really Need Love”, a feel good song that’s similar to 70′s classic  ”ohh lala” by the Faces.

Here’s a new band to watch, Dale Earnhardt Jr.Jr.. I haven’t heard much of their stuff but they seem to be popping up in blogs recently. Their song “simple girl” is nice 60s inspired tune. It kinda reminds of a Paul Mccartney song.

Formed back in 1989, Ocean Colour Scene was once one of the top acts during the brit pop days of the 90′s. They scored numerous hit albums and even upstaged rival band Oasis with their 1997 album, Marchin’ Already. Since then they never really stopped releasing albums and had one every 3 years or so. Their new song Magic Carpet Days is a nice touch of those old brit pop sensibilities that’s hard to find now a days. enjoy.

Cee-Lo’s ‘Fuck You’ has been out for a while now and pretty much everywhere, so it’s quite possible you’ve heard it. Its a very retro sounding song with a lot of “fuck you” in it. Well, I think it’s awesome and it makes you wanna scream the chorus at the top of your lungs. You probably didnt know this but Cee-Lo‘s actually the vocalist of Gnarles Barkley, the guys who did “crazy”.

Young The Giant is a new band that’s bound to make a bang in the coming months. They write the sort of soaring, melodic rock ‘n’ roll that’s bound for greatness. Their songs actually remind me of The Kings of Leon with a very accessible sound and a large stadium-like feel.

I haven’t heard from this band in almost 3 years. It’s good that they’re still alive and kicking. With their retro-ish pop rock style, they’re a breath of  fresh air from what I’ve been listening to recently. The Golden Dogs will be releasing their 3rd album “Coat of Arms” on July 27.

Here is La 4-piece Foster The People. With all the hype coming, 2010 seems to be a good year for these guys. Specially with their anthem-like track Pumped Up Kicks, being hailed as the next “Kids” by MGMT. Pumped Up Kicks has that relaxing indie-feel with hand-claps, echoes, and more- including an anthem-like chorus that will have you chanting along in no time.

Last year Wavves‘ debut was one of the most over hyped, praised, ridiculed and underappreciated, all at the same time, album of the year. The band being hailed as the next big in thing was also said to be rubbish by many critics. Well, I’ve heard their first album and it was one of my favorites last year. Yes, its  very very noisy with lyrics almost indiscernible, but look past that and what you get is really raw music that’s just great. Later this year they’ll release their second album. With the first single, I believe they’re going with a  more approachable sound. High hopes for this album…here’s the first single..

So I just finished watching Being Malkovich by Spike Jonze again which was awesome! Jonze was famous for directing Adaptation and a bunch of music vids. To please my curiosity, I wikipedia-ed him and found out that he recently did a music video for Drunk Girls by Lcd Soundsystem. Being both a fan of Spike Jonze and Lcd Soundsystem, this video was supposed to be a win win situation but to my disdain it fell kinda flat for me. It’s not bad but I was expecting more. Here’s the video….see for yourself

Eccentric New Yorker Darwin Deez comes from that uber trendy Brooklyn lo-fi set that has been seeping into our unconscious for the last year or so. Look at the hippy curls, the trendy indie moustache and his love of quirky dance moves and you’ll immediately get an idea of what to expect from his music.

Although his self-titled debut could initially be mistaken for the sort of electronica we’d expect from the Brooklyn dweller, the record actually has a distinct lack of true electronica, barring the drum machine. Instead it is a mix of skilful, strangely clipped guitar riffs and that drum machine covered by Darwin Deez’ New York drawl. His vocals range from upbeat and playful to a more whimsical tone, often reflecting his lyrics, and it’s a good formula.

The album kicks off with the upbeat indie pop gem,Constellations. Repetition and an infectious melody immediately makes you realise this guy knows exactly how to structure the perfect pop tune. Another fine example of this is the stand out track and lead single, Radar Detector. Its playful melody, killer hook and falsetto vocals make this a real hit and it’s already gracing the radio waves for good reason.

Darwin Deez seems to have found the perfect formula with these songs, however he doesn’t seem content with that and instead of producing a handful of fillers, he changes his style to keep the album fresh.

Darwin Deez is said to be a spiritual chap and a Baba lover and this album reflects that in a way. It’s not over-produced, in fact, some tracks almost sound like bedroom demos but that’s a compliment. It fits the whole feel of the album which oozes honesty and innocence, almost organic. It is yet further testament to his talent in the indie pop arena. At just over 30 minutes in length, it is a compact, perfectly formed and infectious summer record.

Another new release, this time by one of my favorite bands, Arcade Fire. They return this year with their new album The Suburbs their first since 2007′s Neon Bible. Here are two tracks from their upcoming release. “The Suburbs” is a lovely happy go lucky summer time anthem and”Month of May” is probably the punkiest I’ve ever heard Arcade Fire. It’s a departure from their grand yet haunting songs but I’m digging them as of the moment. ..getting pumped for the full release!

Look whos back! ..and you haters said he was done after that whole Taylor incident. Looks like he’s going back to his roots, ditching the autotune, for this track at least. The current working title for the album which is due for a release in September is “Good Ass Job” and here’s the first single, called ‘Power’ featuring Dwele.

Wow I never thought that The Drums would come out with another good song. I already marked them as a one song over hyped up band but they now appear to have more substance in them. Forever and Ever Amen gives us again their trademark beachboys-esque surfer-dance pop which I liked in their breakout song. I have high hopes for this band. Their follow up album drops on June 15, 2010.

Throw Me The Statue reminds me of that rock pop sound that I’ve been missing as of late; the  ones The New Pornographers or Built to Spill used to play. With their energetic sound and slightly electric feel, they have managed to produce some great songs. Although you wont find the most blazing vocals or riffs, what they do they do it right. I’d say, solid indie pop.

Up until about six months ago, the world at large could be forgiven for thinking that the only bands Northern Ireland ever churns out are of the “punk” and “rock” variety (we’re forgetting about Snow Patrolon purpose). Bangor’s Two Door Cinema Club are apparently hell-bent on proving otherwise, peddling the kind of awkward electropop that could score a million broken-hearted teenage romances given half the chance. Already bigged up by the likes of Kanye West, their debut album is a short, sharp shock to the system. Yeah, they may look like a band that would steal your library books rather than your girlfriend, but that just makes us love them even more.
Two Door’s stuttering yet spiky songs are tighter than a snake’s bumhole in a sandstorm. Each track is an economical three minutes or so and, barring the frankly barmy trumpet-led break-down at the end of album opener ‘Cigarettes In The Theatre’, the trio wisely decide to rein in their youthful exuberances for the rest of the record. Listening to the likes of the thrillingly optimistic‘What You Know’ and ‘I Can Talk’makes you feel like you could wrestle former WWE slaphead ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and win (of course, he’d beat the shit out of you, but it’s nice to pretend).

You can’t fault the band’s sunny outlook though. After years of touring it looks like their number has finally come up, and they’re grabbing hold of their chance with the same vigour as a 13-year-old boy getting his first feel. “Let’s make this happen girl/ You’re gonna show the world that something good can work/ And it can work for you/And you know it will” offer the lyrics to recent single ‘Something Good Can Work,’ and by the song’s end we’re willing to believe it too.

So, by thieving a guitar sound from ‘New Romance’-era Pretty Girls Make Graves and putting it alongside synthesized drumbeats and hushed vocals TDCC have created their own style, but they’ve also got a positivity that is as catchy as chlamydia at one of Belle De Jour’s ‘parties’. Don’t believe us? Try listening to the powerpop of ‘Undercover Martyn’ or album closer‘You’re Not Stubborn’ and not feel compelled to channel your inner Brian Blessed and go out and conquer Everest. We dare you. Don’t tell the emos, but it seems like being happy is the new being sad.

Kisses is a LA duo that’s practically playing on repeat on my ipod. They’re a disco inspired group that creates pure “dream pop” magic. Right now they’re relatively unknown but I’m sure that wont last very long.  Their debut album’s rumored to be coming out in a few months.

Here’s a new track by Rhymefest, Kanye’s co-writer for Jesus Walks, which won them a grammy a few years back. Taking samples from jazz artist Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Brand New is a pretty nice record. It’s something different from all the electronic influenced songs coming out these days.

Continuing my recent fascination with hip hop, here’s a new single by acclaimed rap prodigy, Drake. Over, is Drake’s official single for his much anticipated debut album Thank Me Later. Joining Drake is Boi-1da as fellow producer. Judging from this track I kinda felt underwhelmed. It seemed somewhat generic to me; probably needs a few more listens. Overall I guess it’s okay but it does have potential to be a hit.
